About Austin Unbound Film

From the age of three, Austin knew that his female anatomy did not fit him. In middle school, he changed his name and began to dress as a boy. Today, Austin identifies as a straight man and a member of the Portland queer ASL community.
Austin Unbound documents this Deaf man's choice to get a double mastectomy. He and his best friend, James, travel from Portland to San Francisco for the surgery. This social issue film also follows Austin’s life in his local queer ASL community and includes time with his girlfriend, his mother, grandmother and sisters.
The Austin Unbound TRAILER is viewable online. You can see it here or link to it at YouTube, Myspace, Google Video, Friendster and LiveJournal. Find out more about what's up with the project.
"Our film stays honest by not trying to represent every Deaf or Trans person in the United States. Austin Unbound is about one sweet, brash, funny, complicated guy who's brave enough to share his story with us."-- Mara Green, Assistant Director
"Austin's story deserves to be told, and we have another step to complete before fetting it out there. This final phase is going to require a little hard work on the editor's part- finessing the structure of an already shaped story."-- Selena Staley, Director/Director of Photography
Austin Unbound is a non-profit project produced in partnership with 501C(3) Film Action Oregon.
